Background
The IDA was established in 2009, when it became clear that no industry body satisfactorily represented interior design practices and individuals in the commercial market place.
It is an independent body for the interior design industry and has the objective to facilitate a strong and prosperous contract interiors market. The development of members' commercial interests is a priority and raising the status of the interior designer its key objective.
About
The IDA is the business association representing Interior Design professionals and practices working principally in the International commercial interiors market with public and private sector clients.
The IDA promotes and protects the interests of interior designers and encourages the highest possible standards of design, service and professional performance. It is directed by interior designers for interior designers.
Objectives
IDA activities are driven by the demands of its members and focuses on the general prosperity of the industry. The following objectives have been established within a strategy of continuous improvement:
- To work on behalf of members to develop commercial excellence.
- Protection of design right and seek changes in legislation
- Closer relationships with manufacturers and suppliers to exchange knowledge
- Take commercial interior design to a higher status as a profession
- To be the voice of the members and the industry on relevant issues
- To encourage a positive business environment
Markets
A building is a shell with no functions and little value. Interior designers create the atmosphere introduce functionality and enable an effective interface with the public. This role is as important and relevant as that of an architect.
IDA members design for:
CORPORATE: offices & corporate headquarters
HOSPITALITY: hotels, leisure venues, restaurants, bars and cruise ships
HEALTHCARE: hospitals, care homes and medical facilities
EDUCATION: schools, universities and further education establishments
RETAIL: shops and out of town mixed retail/leisure centres
MUSEUM & EXHIBITION: commercial display spaces
In essence, anywhere there is space visited or occupied by the public IDA members create the setting and so have a considerable responsibility.
